Safety measures you need for a safe home

I have learnt some nice lessons about maintaining home safety and thereby keeping family and valuables safe during my stay in abroad. Here are some valuable safety measures you need for a safe home.

Safety precautions for a safe home

Do not open the main door until and unless you can identify the visitor looking through the peep hole or whatever other means you have for seeing the visitor without opening the door. If the person is unknown ask him/her to come after making mobile phone contact with the family member s/he wants to meet.

Take your shoes off and place in a shoe rack after entering your house. You can prevent many diseases by doing it.

Keep the floor of your room free from oil or liquid. It will prevent you from slip and fall incidents.

Keep your bathroom well cleaned and free from bad odors. Use proper cleaning materials to maintain it.

Turn off your electronics while not in use; it will not only consume power but also burn your appliances due to overheat or power surge.

While hanging a wall photo; don’t drive a nail into the wall by hammer. I have seen people getting injured or even blind by getting hit with a slipping nail. Hang it by placing a wall clip plug after drilling. You may also use sticky hangers.

Don’t overcrowd your power strips. It may damage your equipments or machine you use.

Never let your gas burner running to save match stick. Never dry you laundry over gas oven. Be sure to open windows of your kitchen for a couple of minutes before you fire up your gas oven.

Keep an emergency medical kit at your home and be sure that all the medicines are good. Practice the Cardio Pulmonary Rescue (CPR) procedures and first aid giving techniques.

Keep all the emergency numbers of hospital and law enforcing agencies in a Diary.

Keep insecticide and medicines in a safe locked place and ensure they are out of reach of small children.
