How to Service a Table or Stand Fan at Home?

A Table or Stand fan may not be a common household appliance in upper world countries (where portable table fans are used for camping), but it a very common electrical item for middle class households of third world countries, particularly in countries with tropical weather. In winter season, we clean and pack our table fans and unpack it in summer for using. A table fan may not be used for a whole season. So, it must be serviced before use in order to
increase its life span and get the optimal performance out of it. Here are some easy steps for servicing a table fan.

Steps to servicing a table fan for optimal performance

1. Unpack it, if it was packed during winter.

2. If it is already in use, just unplug it from power socket.

3. Take the fan in open space and keep it on a table.

4. Open clips of front grill/cover.

5. Look at the plastic lock of fan blade and follow the arrow mark to open it by moving it in the right direction.

6. Pull out the fan blade holder that is responsible for holding the fan blade tight to the fan body.

7. Now pull out the fan blade gently.

8. Look at the interior grill/cover. Usually, a plastic nut holds it tight to the body. Move the nut in the right direction to open it.

9. Clean the rotor shaft.

10. Clean the plastic Housing of motor from outside and its stand and also the
base.

11. Give 4/5 drops of machine oil at the top of the rotor and allow it to flow in to the rubber bush. Move the rotor by hand and see whether it is moving freely without any noise.

12. Wipe the outside plastic cover with a damp cloth slightly soaked in a detergent solution.

13. Allow a few minutes for all parts to dry all the parts. You may want to wipe all the parts with a piece of dry cloth to make sure they don’t have any liquid residue on them.

14. Clean the power cord and dry it. Assemble all the parts back.
