Speak the truth and never hide behind a pretext

Reporting means briefing your boss about the day-to-day developments and realities about the job. You need to maintain the record of your each day’s performance and submit that to your boss in time. Make sure you keep the photo-copy of that. Be truthful with whatever you write in your reports. Your boss becomes happy while you communicate effectively about all the developments in work. That keeps him assured that you are working hard.
